[OOC] Fuji Industries LTD
"The future is Fuji."
An up and coming technological company. Designing and developing new components and electronic equipment, Fuji Industries pioneers the hardware for existing technology and has begun to design and manufacture some of its own. Also available for engineering design and consulting contracts.
⚙ Facilities

Fuji Industries is currently located in an office park towards the southwestern edge of the Enprise District. Half of the second floor is taken up by the company and it is quickly expanding into other available offices. Though the actual manufacturing of electronics is done off site facility through a commercial contract, there are plans to eventually move and/or purchase a space to create more items in-house.

⚙ History
Fuji Industries was originally founded by Asami Sato and (NPC). As part of graduate research at MIT, a new process was pioneered to increase the longevity and potency of the modern lithium ion battery. These new and improved batteries were quickly dispersed and sold to big name tech companies across the country. The group began to take consulting contracts to design new hardware for modern electronics, but after a year decided to move the operation to Recollé and begin to design their own products and components.
Now having been in the city for three years, the company is renting out a manufacturing facility nearby and has expanded from ten employees to over one-hundred. There is talk of either renting out the rest of the current office building as well as opening up a new operation in a new state.
⚙ Employees
Applicants from all backgrounds are considered for employment. A minimum of 30 hours per week is required to be considered full-time, but part-time employees are also eligible for many company-paid benefits. Paid and unpaid internships are also available for students of Recollé High and Recollé University.

CANON HISTORY: Asami Sato @ Avatar Wiki
CANON PERSONALITY: When Asami is first introduced, she's shown as being a polite, attractive, and polished rich man's daughter. To be fair, these are all accurate. Asami grew up with everything that might sit at the envy of others; a large house, maids, enough cash to burn and the ability to eat at the nicest places and drive the newest cars. Her father invented the Future Industries' Satomobile, the first motor vehicle of the Avatar universe, and consequently it brought his family to a high status. "Sato" is a name that few don't know and Asami, while she doesn't necessarily boast about it, never bothers to hide it, either. She understands the status gives her some leeway, but she's fairly modest about her upbringing when it's addressed. If she can, she will use it to help people instead. She also obviously takes some care in her appearance given the way she does her hair and make-up, but she's fair from just a pretty rich girl, even if that seems to be all Korra sees her as at first.
What we learn next about her is that, perhaps, there are still things in her life that aren't as perfect as her hair. (And it is pretty nice.) Her mother was killed by a firebender when she was young, something that changed the life of her family and direction that her father took his wealth and creative genius. It would be easy for her to blame firebenders or all benders for this, but she doesn't. In fact, she was a big fan of pro-bending--a sport that sets teams of benders against one another for the entertainment of the masses, a popular sport in Republic City, where she grew up--and even went so far as to date a firebender, Mako. However, when her father's ties to the Equalists are revealed--a group of anti-benders, set on eliminating bending entirely to "equalize" the population--Asami realizes that there's a difference between the actions of a few and the whole. There's a moment of hesitation, but she willingly turns the weapons her father designed on him and his men, abandoning what's left of her family and her status because she believes what they're doing is wrong. It's important to note that Asami has never been without before, but that she sees what he's doing so morally wrong, what Korra and their friends are doing as the better path, that she makes the decision despite not knowing if she will ever get any of it back. And she doesn't complain about it once.
Asami is a caring and affectionate person. She's shown the ability to empathize and anticipate the needs of her friends, sometimes understanding their motivations better than they might. She sees how much Mako cares for Korra sooner than he and Korra even realize, and while it hurts her to lose him, she is still able to be friends with the both of them despite the awkward (and dubiously written) love-triangle. It would be easy for her to be spiteful, especially when it was made pretty clear that both of them had been lying to her, but she isn't. Asami is the kind of person who puts another's wants and needs before her own, even if it means it will hurt her. In the end, she realizes that it's their happiness that's important. It's different than what her father did, he tried to us his power and influence to exact revenge on undeserving people. What he did in the name of their mother and for her is something Asami has a lot of trouble reconciling. It's different than coming to accept one's own feelings for another person, what he did is betrayed them and it took several years for her to forgive him for it. This is perhaps the one instance in which Asami does not smooth those feelings over after a short while.
She is very resilient, taking the hits as the come. To say she's a "strong character" would be doing her a disservice, as her strength isn't shown in the same ways that Korra, on one hand, might be described. Her mother died, her father betrayed her, her boyfriend left her for a mutual friend, and her company ends up nearly falling to ruin because of her father's actions and ties. And yet, despite all of this, she continues to try and move forward, taking the burden of the family business to restore it to it's former success. To her, Future Industries is all she has left of her family and it's important to keep it. We still see Asami make herself available for her friends, willing to step away from the business head chair to go on their adventures. She's supportive and sympathetic, always turning her observations of others to see how something might look from their point of view. This is why she's able to understand and forgive.
However, the kind of person that she is in regards to wanting to be there for others also leads her to often assume the best of people. It allows her to be manipulated by Varrick and inadvertently let him take over her failing company. She also makes the mistake of making moves on Mako once again when he and Korra break up--actually within the week that Korra is gone. For as nice a person as she is, she's prone to make some pretty unfortunate mistakes. However, she also is able to own up and learn from them. She doesn't trust Varrick nearly as easily the next time they have to work together and she apologizes to Korra.
Growing up in a wealthy environment, Asami has been shown to be both smart and a little extravagant with money. She doesn't have any qualms spending it on people she cares about, and they are always with good intentions, though she doesn't often stop to think about how her gestures might make others feel. It makes her a little pushy despite the fact that she is generally an observant and caring person. It might be one of the areas she's never been checked because people either like gifts or find it hard to say "no" to her, but it does unwittingly draw that line between classes without her realizing it.
Daddy's little girl can also be one tough cookie. She initially surprises Korra with her interests--not being one to take a girl friend shopping and for makeovers, but instead bringing the group to watch cars race and even bringing Korra along for high speed drive. Asami grew up around wheels and motor oil and it shows with her ability to drive and pilot. She surprises the group further by how she takes out her father and the Equalists for the first time, showing her confidence and competence as a fighter, easily disarming them all at hand-to-hand combat. Because of this, she is able to keep up on the battlefield with her three bending friends, despite having no control over any of the elements herself. But perhaps what she brings most to Team Avatar is her intelligence.
Like her father, she is an engineer and inventor, though we don't get to see just how well until late Season 2 and Season 3. Despite not even being twenty years-old, Asami is designing and testing new ships and designing new suits. She's also shown to be able to improvise and work with very limited resources, like when she had to construct a functional sand-sailer from scrap. Her ability to anticipate the wants and reactions of others can lead her to be able to manipulate the enemy if need be, as shown when she and Korra are captured on the same airship she eventually uses to build that sand-sailer. Knowing that most only see her as a pretty young girl, non-bender and consequently a non-threat, she uses it to her advantage to put herself in a better position to escape and help Korra. However, Asami is typically an honest person and expects the same of others, which is why lying and half-truths can hurt her so.
She's a very loyal friend, if that hasn't been made apparent that she's still friends with the people that she could have easily left behind due to past romantic entanglements. She's also someone who shows affection very physically as when she and Mako were together they were almost constantly (grossly) PDA, and she almost always had her hand on him at some point. But it's not just in romance, she's shown to ruffle Bolin's hair when she's happy and proud of him, reaching out to Korra often, among other things.
At the end of the day, Asami is so much more than what she could have been in the most refreshingly wonderful way. She's a caring, helpful individual who has let herself be taken advantage of in the past, but refuses to do so in the future. Her friends have become her family and her high moral standards keep her set on the right path. Her intelligence keeps her on par with her equally talented friends and helps complete a well-rounded Team Avatar put the world back into balance.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Hand-to-hand combat: Despite being a non-bender, Asami is an extremely proficient and skilled fighter. She is able to keep up with her comrades and take out benders and Equalists just as well. She's very quick on her feet and uses dodges and throws often. Her fighting style came from self-defense classes that she's taken part in since a young age. There is force behind her attacks, but speed is her main weapon.
- Driver: Having grown up around motor vehicles--her father basically invented them--Asami is an expert driver. She's shown to take great risks and is very comfortable behind the wheel. This includes Satomobiles (cars) as well as motorcycles/bikes/mopeds.
- Pilot: She's able to pilot two-person planes with skill as well as large airships, even of those not by her company's own making. Which really goes into her biggest skill...
- Engineer's Mind: It's not a super ability by any means, but Asami is a very intelligent and practical thinker. She's able to see a machine and understand how it works, use it to her advantage, and even build new devices out of scrap. She was able to build a sand-sailor from the wreckage of an airship, which she initially helped repair until it was destroyed by a large sandshark. She's an excellent strategist as well, shown in her ability and take towards the board game Pai Sho.

Though she doesn't have a canon height, Mako is about 6'2" and she's only a couple of inches shorter standing next to him. She'll be a little shorter in Recolle, standing at around 5'5".
AU HISTORY: Asami was born and raised in Recolle, but her parents did not begin there. Her father was from the Aichi prefecture of Japan. Her mother, Mi-Young Seok, from Gwangmyeong, South Korea. Mi-Young's family had a history with Kia Motors, which had established in the early 1970s. So when she traveled to Japan as part of a study-abroad program in the mid-1980s, but ended up staying when she found work in the automotive industry with Toyota. her father had been working at a manufacturing facility. The two met at work, ended up dating for a year, and then decided to get married. There was some discontent with family members at the time, so they decided to take a risk and move to the Untied States in the late 1980s.
Toyota was starting to establish itself in the continental U.S., so her father found work doing much of the same thing on the assembly lines. Mi-Young worked various administrative jobs unit she became pregnant in the early 1990s. In 1993, Asami--the couple's only child--was born.
Asami's knack for and love of learning was noticed early on. She began to read at a young age and had a particular fondness for physics and math. Wanting to foster her interests and education, the couple worked hard so that she could take part in extracurricular activities, which meant after school and weekend programs. With this support, Asami excelled in school. One of her favorite memories was at a summer camp that was geared towards expanding a child's understanding of physics and she was able to build several "machines", including trebuchets.
Building had always been a part of her life. Her father worked in the Auto Industry and though her family wasn't well off, her father liked to work on cars as a hobby. Cars that would otherwise be dumped, he would sometimes salvage for parts, clean those up, and then sell them to appropriate shops by request, or he would work on some basic restoration. Ignoring any gender bias and, as always, encoring Asami's curiosity, her father allowed her to help with these projects, which only fueled her enthusiasm. And gave her a little bit of a penchant for cars.
Though she was book smart and skipped grades, her social life wasn't what it could have been. Friendly, but a little bit of a know-it-all, Asami found it difficult to make friends at first. She had a tendency to take charge of a situation early in school, sometimes unwarranted. She then tried to impress her classmates with what she knew and what she could do, but that made her equally unpopular. It wasn't until high school, which Asami entered at 13, that she was forced to take a step back and figure out what it was that rubbed people the wrong way. She learned to listen more closely, but also do her own thing and worry less about whether someone might like her or not. It helped and she graduated high school at 15.
She was lucky to land a scholarship with University of California, Berkley for her undergraduate Bachelors in Mechanical and Computer Engineering, and then later moved to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology her Masters, which also touched on Chemical Engineering. One of her projects in her last few years of graduate work was on the limitations of lithium ion batteries. They degrade progressively over their lifetime and often can't keep up to modern demands. Asami and her group were able to develop a new process in manufacturing these batteries through exposure to positive electrodes, which greatly increased the life of the batteries.
This inspired her to continue working on improving current technology, wanting it to be the best of the best. Asami and her graduate group worked with the new technique to manufacture and patent a new type of lithium ion battery which launched them into the Tech Industry. The batteries were quickly sold to be used in various electronics. With growing interest, Asami headed the group as they designed their own hardware in terms of different wireless devices, portable chargers, etc. At first they were on contract and selling these designs, but a leap of faith brought them into renting out facilities and hiring workers to manufacture the products themselves.
This began the startup company, which ironically began as a play off Apple in the word "Fuji" (aka a type of apple). However, they ended up adopting and coining Fuji Industries, Ltd., which also came from one of the kanji in Asami's last name (藤, tou/fuji). The main hub of operation moved to Recolle, for which Asami was glad to be close to her parents again. As the company continued to grow both in design contract and expanding the reach of their own manufacturing in products, Asami was happy to show her appreciation by setting up a legitimate garage for her father to work on cars more easily in and giving both parents a full home renovation. Asami ended up renting a modestly-sized apartment in downtown Recolle, but the location isn't exactly cheap. Asami originally splurged on two cars, but ended up selling one not long after having it. (But not before working on it a bit.)
Asami certainly had a period were spending was a little extravagant. Not just on her cars, but on traveling, because why not? But it was short-lived. Mostly. Her true bad habit is still cars, and so Asami takes place in sanctioned racing for fun, although there has been rumors that she might have been seen once at the scene of non-sanctioned street racing. They're just rumors, of course. (Right?) She makes it a habit to randomly cover the tab for other people in restaurants she's at, to pay someone's parking fees, etc. She likes to think them as random acts of kindness and better ways to spend her money. Her closet is definitely not a random act of kindness, but it is well-funded never the less.
Considered the CEO of Fuji Industries at this point, but every member of the original team still takes a large part in design and development. Wanting to help foster learning and experience in the way she had growing up, Asami has also made it a point to offer internships and scholarships for students (especially young women) who want to get into any technical field. She is working on a relationship with the local high school and college as well.
AU PERSONALITY: Unlike her canon counterpart, Asami in Recolle did not grow up well-off with large expendable income. Though she still enjoys using money as a way to impress others, she's decidedly more mindful about it. In canon Asami didn't always seem to understands that people may not want her to just buy things for them, pushy and expectant. Asami still makes gestures, but they are less forceful as she has a greater appreciation for what it is like to not start at the top.
While her father is hard working in both incantations, it is Asami who ends up establishing and developing the "family business", as it were. This means she isn't inheriting a family legacy, but building it herself. Her company is still very new, only a couple of years old, but it is her baby in more ways than it was in canon. It is for her family, but she has been calling the shots from the beginning, which gives her a greater need for control and greater sense of responsibility.
Another difference worth noting is where her engineering skills are being used. In LOK she was essentially at the forefront of technology, which was mostly energy/steampunk-based. To mirror this, Asami in Recolle is working on not just hardware but software and greater computing techniques and capacity. Of course, with style. So while she still has the ability to work with machines (she still has a love of cars), the scale has been moved from airships to computers. The technology she helps develop does have some crossover with transportation.

SAMPLE
She has a problem.
It's a real problem. Honestly. Asami figures it must have started in college, because she sure didn't do this in high school, but sometimes she feels like she will be entirely unable to get up in the morning if she doesn't have a cup of coffee. Of course she has a coffe-maker in her apartment, but it's really not the same when you can get an actual handcrafted beverage at a local coffee shop. They even know her name and her favorite drinks.
Has she become a cliche? Is she now that person that other patrons in line roll their eyes at as she taps away frantically at her phone, offering friendly smile and her all-too specific latte order is spouted off by the barista without Asami having to say a thing? Yes, she's become the person in the Starbucks line that people bitch on their Facebooks about. She never intended it that way. She just really, really needs her Grande, Quad Nonfat One-Pump Mocha Two-Pump Vanilla No-Whip Latte.
Some part of her is ashamed. But not the part of her that really, really needs the caffeine boost. Especially when she knows she's going to have another late night, what with some representatives from a California-based development firm in town. Truth be told, Asami enjoys the schmoozing for the most part, but she's quickly realizing her favorite things are actually the designing and the tinkering. Having something physical in front of you. But, well, that's not where she's needed right now.
No, where she's needed is at the register as she takes out her credit card.
"The usual?" the barista asks with a bright customer service smile.
"You've got it," Asami replies with a tired, but friendly smile of her own.
"One Grande, Quad Nonfat One-Pump Mocha Two-Pump Vanilla No-Whip Latte..." Her order is rattled off as the barista marks all the appropriate ticks and codes on the paper cup. Asami can practically feel the eye rolls behind her. Pursing her lips, she spares a glance along the line of her shoulder to the other customers in line.
Behind her is a middle-aged woman who immediately averts her gaze as soon as Asami looks. Standing next to her is a teenage son who just kind of stares at her wide-eyed, a little socially unaware and probably tired. Asami raises her brow and he blushes. Behind them is a man on his cellphone, probably in his mid-thirties, followed by two young women around her age who are talking quietly to each other.
Asami taps her credit card on the counter as she considered.
"That'll be--" the barista begins, but Asami cuts them off as she turns to face the line.
"Hey, everyone!" Her voice is chipper despite the lack of caffeine in her body. All eyes in the line and in the coffee shop turn on her. "It's Wednesday and I think we could all use a pick me up. Your coffee and breakfast is on me today."
Silence.
That...was far less dramatic than she hoped.
Thankfully, the teenage boy spoke up.
"Seriously?"
Asami smiles, stepping aside to let him and his mother step forward if they wish. "Seriously."
"Anything we want?"
"You got it."
"Oh, you don't need to do that," his mother said, feeling suddenly on the spot.
Asami shakes her head, her (already) perfectly tousled hair flipping over her shoulder in a motion that she could probably patent and sell. "Maybe not, but I want to. Mornings are hard enough and getting here was half the battle, right?" She smiles.
Though the mother still looks a little uncomfortable, there are quiet and hearty thank yous passed her way as the line trickles through. A man slipped in towards the end, not realizing the trend, but Asami picked up his drink as well. She waited to the side of the register, sipping at her ridiculous latte until she has to pay. The barista shakes their head as Asami hands them her card.
"That'll be $87.39."
Asami cocked her head to the side as she looked up from her phone, smiling from behind the rim of her cup. "Sounds like a good deal to me."
